SEEING WITH THE BODY: A Creative Movement Session

We see so much with our eyes but how often do we stop to “see” with our body?

Join us in a 90-minute creative movement session where we will explore the connection between art, movement, body, and our inner landscape.

We will use familiar, and perhaps unfamiliar, artworks as prompts for exploring integral elements of art, such as space, light, colour and rhythm. The invitation is to become aware of these elements and translate the images and feelings the art may evoke into movement, allowing the art to take physical form.

Through the gentle guidance of interdisciplinary practices—including breath awareness, sensory attunement, and movement improvisation—we will look inward to investigate how visual art resonates within our bodies.

We will use other art expressions, including writing and drawing, to reflect on the movement and can spend time sharing our experiences.

This workshops aims to activate deep listening to our creative selves and is designed for participants looking to expand their movement reptoire, connect with intuition, and explore new pathways of creative expression. Play and self-enquiry are highly encouraged!

No previous experience of dance or movement is required.

FAQ

  • Our classes/courses have 2 categories:

    1. Community classes are for our service users who are in need of a specialised class because of their historical experiences. These classes are normally referral only, unless otherwise stated.

    2. Dāna classes are open to the public. All profit raised from these classes are directed back into our Community Classes (see point 1).

More information can be found on our Services page.

  • You can contact us directly to self-refer or go through the organisation we are collaborating with on a particular class.

  • We combine a thoughtful, survivor-centred and trauma-informed approach to our classes. This means that we work as best as we can to facilitate spaces that hold the unique experiences of a particular group to mind. For example, a group for women impacted by domestic abuse will have different needs to a veterans group.

  • Yes! Beginners can join any of our classes, unless otherwise stated.

  • We try to use spaces that provide access for all disabilities, but sometimes this is not always possible. Please get in touch so we can discuss any particular needs. Needless to say, we also welcome anyone with invisible disabilities.
