We Move. We Collaborate. We Educate.
Movement for Healing is an independent grassroots programme based in London. We provide access to body-based practices that support physical, emotional and mental well-being. We work specifically with people who have been impacted by domestic abuse, gender-related violence and marginalisation.
We run independent community classes and workshops in addition to collaborations with charities and organisations to broaden access.
Our classes are influenced by postural yoga, meditation and exploratory movement. We believe that healing comes in community and all our classes are held in small groups.
We advocate for all wellbeing and wellness spaces to welcome survivors by being trauma-informed. We support yoga teachers and people in helping professions through training or service development.
We fundraise so our service-users can access our courses for free or at reduced costs.
Our values are rooted in trauma-informed, financially accessible, culturally inclusive methods of support.
Our Story
Movement for Healing was founded in 2017 by Eunice Laurel, an experienced yoga facilitator and yoga teacher-trainer. In 2009, she spent time in Rwanda, facilitating yoga sessions for HIV-positive women and children directly impacted by the 1994 genocide, working alongside a multi-disciplinary team of medical and psychological clinicians. She recognised the benefits of holistic disciplines, such as yoga, to support populations impacted by gender-based violence, whilst also understanding the importance of offering support rooted in the principles of trauma-informed care. She advocates, through education and training, for yoga and wellbeing spaces that are ethical and supportive for survivors.
